Trying To Get Back Into Shape, Need A Helping Hand

Today we live in a very physical world, not in the jobs that we do but in the lives that we lead. As our working lives are more and more becoming service industry led desk jobs we are in danger of becoming a very sedentary species. Couple with this the fact that we are all now more health conscious than ever before as well as being much more aware of our appearance and you begin to understand that life is all a little confusing.

There are more keep fit and health magazines on the shelves of new stalls than ever before as well as their being more diet and looking good television programmes on our screens so we all feel something of a pressure to be more health wise and do something to get back in shape. But what should we do? There are so many options open to us that it can be confusing if not a little daunting as to what to choose.
The gym is an obvious place to start but if you have never ever been to one before and you are even a little out of shape then you might be a bit scared to try it out. There really is nothing to be afraid of at the gym. It is just a case of breaking down a few barriers and giving it a go. Most gyms will have trained staff on hand to guide you through a programme of what you should and should not do to get maximum results as well as making sure that you do not over do it and injure yourself.

If you do try out at a gym it is always a good idea to have a plan in your own mind of what you want to achieve, no matter what it is or how optimistic it may seem, if you have not got a plan how do you know if you are where you want to be. The other thing about having a plan if you discuss it with a gym instructor they should be able to point you in the right direction and make sure you are working towards the right goal. If you really are a little anxious about joining a gym why not ask them if they do a monthly plan that you can cancel at anytime? If you really do not like it then you have only lost a month’s worth of payments but on the other hand if you do find that you enjoy it you may well be able to offset the monthly payments off against an annual subscription.

As far as equipment and kit goes that you will need for the gym it really is the bare minimum needed to get you started. I would always recommend doubling up on all kit, so for instance buy yourself two gym tops, two pairs of shorts, 4 pairs of socks, two sweat towels, two shower towels and two sweatshirts. If money is a little tight you can get away with one pair of trainers, I would suggest a pair of cross trainers. These are suitable for all types of gym activities such as running, aerobics, lifting weights and circuit classes. Other than the above mentioned equipment all you need is a gym bag to put it all in and a little motivation and you could well be on your way to a new fitter life.

Body Fitness And Its Effect On Your Life (Part 1)

Remember how we referred to your body as a machine? Well, the time has come to improve the way that machine is working. This means physically. Your body is a well designed machine, actually. Each part of your body functions well because of the support that other parts play.

Your heart pumps oxygen rich blood to each cell in your body, delivering fuel to is so that it can perform its duty. Your lungs supply your heart with that necessary oxygen. Your brain keeps everything working, even those things that you don’t think about doing like your heart beating and your lungs breathing.

Your job is to give your body what it needs to continue to perform correctly. While your diet is something for the next chapter, we need to address your body’s ability to do what it needs to through being physically capable.

What some people don’t realize is why their body has developed as it has. Well back in the time of the cave man, the body had to do what it needed to so that you could stay alive. It would store food in fat so that when there was not enough food available, these fat reserves could be used.

Your muscles are necessary for functioning but they have been built to be used, not to sit ideally. Your body is used to providing your muscles with the fuel that they need to work hard. If you don’t work hard, your body can’t maintain a healthy muscle mass.

What’s Healthy?

As we mentioned early, to know what level of fitness your body is in, you need to take into consideration the vast number of measurements that we’ve already taken. Your weight, your blood pressure and your body mass index are good indications of your overall health.

Yet, it goes further than this, too. You should understand how well your body is working, too. Do you have any physical limitations? If you physically can’t lift things for fear of hurting your back, this could be a potential problem that needs to be considered.

If you have problems with your legs, your neck, your arms or anything else, you should address these specific concerns. The best place to start is to work with your doctor to determine why you are not physically fit in those areas. That way, you can improve your overall health and then improve upon your situation by knowing how to.

Where Are You?

As we’ve mentioned, it’s important for you to know where you stand health wise. That means taking the measurements that we’ve listed. You should weekly weigh yourself, the same day at the same time each week. Keep a log of this information so that you can see your progression.

Talking to your doctor is a great place to start when it comes to determining your overall health. You should not skip this step. If you are overweight, chances are good that your heart has been affected by it. You may not physically be able to exercise to a certain level. We won’t even include that level of exercise here because your doctor must tell you what’s okay and what is too much.

If you are not having any physical limitations, pains or weight problems, that’s a great sign. Now, look at your body in other manners to determine what you can improve on. Even an overall fit person can often improve their body’s fitness through improving their body’s makeup.

Understanding where you are is difficult for many at first. It’s a hard realization. But, it’s not the permanent solution, its going to improve, one step at a time.

In Body Fitness And Its Effect On Your Life (part two), we are going to discuss how to improve your body using two methods: aerobic training and strength training.

How To Be Healthy

True Health is a state of being. In order to be healthy, you
must be ‘health conscious’. This is a universal principle: if you
wish to manifest something, you must be conscious of that thing.

Being conscious of something means it’s what you’re thinking
about consciously, regularly.

The reason you manifest what you’re conscious of is that
when you think of something consciously, you trigger off
vibrations (yes, we now know that thoughts are things
which cause their own vibrations, just as sound and light
do.). These vibrations, on a physiological level,
bring about physical changes in your cells that correspond
with what you’re thinking of.

On a non-physical level, these vibrations seek and resonate
with sources of similar vibrations and they all perpetuate
the originating thought, thus bringing it to pass.

Here’s one way to apply this to yourself. I’ll use an example
to illustrate. True stories.

Two ladies were diagnosed with malignancies. Death
sentences. Watch how their thoughts brought about their
outcomes. See how their thoughts altered their prognosis.

Lady ‘A’ - rejected that diagnosis and surrounded herself
with things that made her feel good. She watched lots of
comedies that made her laugh out loud a lot. She created
mental images of her body being perfectly healthy and thought
about them while surrounding herself with love and laughter.

Lady ‘A’ went into remission without chemotherapy - and
further tests showed no sign of the disease in her body.

Lady ‘B’ - began ‘researching’ cancer. She launched a
website designed to ‘help’ other cancer sufferers. This
site contains a lot of information about cancer. Just keeping
the site up to date means she has to be thinking of the
disease and all its ramifications at all times.

Lady ‘B’ is in constant pain from the disease and the chemo
she’s taking. She complains a lot and feels mighty sorry for
herself.

Coincidence? You decide.

Fact is, you manifest what you think about. It’s a lot easier
said than done, I agree, but at least now that you know this
truth you can start acting on it.

What do you desire, health-wise?

Focus on that then. Do not give thought to what you don’t
want. If you desire perfect health, create mental images
that portray health for you. Surround yourself only with
thoughts that convey the message ‘perfect health’ for you.

You must commit to doing this. Neuroimaging studies
have shown that each thought causes your brain to
create and grow a brand new nerve cell. With repeated
thought, more cells of the same nature grow, and that
is literally how things get ‘hard-wired’ into our
physiology.

Why not ‘hard-wire’ health?

Your choice.

Weight Loss - A Serious Health Concern

Weight loss and weight control are a major concern health-wise and image-wise. As of the moment, a large percentage of the world’s population is over weight. More than sixty percent of adults in the United States alone are obese or severely over weight. Because of these staggering figures and the adverse effects brought about by being overweight, weight loss has become a key to achieving a healthier lifestyle.

Too much weight is related to a host of diseases such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and some forms of cancer. Healthy weight loss can help in the prevention of these diseases as well as aid in controlling the body’s cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.

Excessive eating and living a lethargic lifestyle can lead to too much weight gain. Weight loss, control, and maintenance are very tedious and difficult tasks; however, it is important to maintain the recommended weight to allow yourself to live a better life. To produce significant results when losing weight, one must come up with a strategy or weight loss plan and stick to it religiously. This plan should include the following points:

- choosing low calorie and low fat foods

- eating smaller portions of food

- drinking lots of water instead of drinks loaded with sugar

- engaging in physical activities

There are also a lot of available drugs and medications that claim to help in weight loss. These products may come in the form of pills, powdered drinks, teas, and whatnot. Despite making claims of reducing weight in just a short amount of time, most of these drugs are not approved by the FDA, are not guaranteed to be safe and effective, and may cause adverse side effects.

A wide variety of diet programs have also become increasingly popular over the recent years. There are diet programs that are effective; however, there are also some diet programs that are simply trends that tend to lose steam after some time. Deciding to engage in these diet programs is risky business and one should always seek the opinion of a medical professional before starting on any of these diets.

Some surgical procedures may also be undertaken to induce weight loss, however, these forms of surgeries are only recommended for individuals who are in drastic need of help, such as people who are severely obese, and should not be done on people who only want to lose weight for aesthetically related reasons.

All these type of weight loss products, systems and procedures can have severely unfavorable effects if not administered properly. The best thing to do when trying to lose weight is to go on a healthy and well balanced diet and getting yourself a nice and effective exercise program. Now, if you do still decide to try weight loss products and procedures, it is best to consult your physician and hear about all possible alternatives before making a choice.
